Monash Public Library Service’s annual literature festival, WordFest. is back for 2024.
Running from 20 June – 11 July 2024, the festival brings readers and writers together for a series of author talks, writing workshops and the Monash Short Story Writing Competition.
This year’s program is centred around the theme “Every Page Counts” with the opportunity for participants to meet authors and share in important social dialogue on a range of topical or engaging subjects.
This year, Tracey Spicer OM will launch WordFest at Clayton Theatre on 20 June and will discuss her new book Man-Made: How the bias of the past is being built into the future.
The WordFest program will also include:
- Former Richmond Tigers Captain, Trent Cotchin at in-conversation event as he talks about his new book From the Heart at Clayton Theatre on 25 June.
- Author Alyssa Huynh, in conversation with Alice Pung OAM, as Alyssa launches her new book Safe Spaces.- the exploration of a woman’s experience of racism in Australia and how to find hope through community. At Clayton Theatre on 26 June.
- Bestselling author and tennis legend Jelena Dokic discussing her latest book Fearless at Clayton Theatre on 27 June.
- A writing workshop with true crime writer and podcaster Vikki Petraitis at Wheelers Hill Library on 29 June.
- Award-winning food journalist, radio presenter and international TV personality Matt Preston will talk about his new memoir Big Mouth at Mount Waverley Youth Centre on 2 July.
- Author Robyn Davidson with an in-conversation event as she talks about her new book Unfinished Woman, an unforgettable memoir from the author of the sensational international bestseller Tracks: the story of a mother and daughter, of love, loss and the pursuit of freedom. At Wheelers Hill Library on 3 July.
- An evening with Underbelly author and award-winning crime reporter John Silvester where he will talk about his latest book Naked City at Mount Waverley Community Centre on 4 July.
- Beloved Australian musician Kate Ceberano discussing her new book Unsung, which explores the people and experiences that have inspired her, what has humbled her, what hurts and what sustains at Mount Waverley Community Centre on 9 July.
- Investigative journalist Nick McKenzie presenting the 2024 Sir John Monash Lecture at Oakleigh Main Hall on 11 July.
