June is shaping up to be a huge month with lots of winter festivals and solstice celebrations across the state. There’s also a jam-packed Kings Birthday long weekend, and the winter school holidays kick off at the end of the month.
There’s plenty to do and see as well -this is our massive list of things to do this month across the state.

- The RISING festival is back for 2024 from 1-16 June
- Taste Sorrento – Sorrento’s winter festival – has an extravaganza of events and promotions across the entire month from 1-30 June.
- Indulge in a scone extravaganza at Mary Eats Cake’s first ever Scone Festival from 1-30 June at the Montrose and Brunswick stores.
- The Victorian Pride Centre in St Kilda is running events all month from 1-30 June for Pride Month
- As winter approaches and the nights get colder, it’s time for the festive Winter Night Market at Queen Victoria Market. The 2024 event is taking place over a 13 week season, every Wednesday night from June 5 to August 28, between 5pm and 10pm.
- The 2024 Children’s International Film Festival is taking place from 8 June to 7 July at the Lido, Classic and Cameo Cinemas.
- The NBA Exhibition in Docklands is the ultimate experience for basketball enthusiasts! This basketball exhibition is a one-of-a-kind adventure through the amazing universe of the NBA. The event runs until 23 June and offers over 20 themed sections combining the NBA’s rich and storied past with interactive elements that transport you into the world of basketball.
- Unko Museum, translated as the “Poop Museum”, is a fun and interactive exhibit with super adorable decor. Enter a world of colour and unleash your inner child in a uniquely Kawaii (cute) poop universe imported from Japan. This unique exhibit is on until 28 June.
- The Science Gallery at the University of Melbourne’s exhibition – NOT NATURAL – explores our increasing ability to control nature and the plethora of possibilities and ethical dilemmas that come with that power. Running until 29 June.
- Following a successful tour in the USA and UK, it’s Melbourne’s turn get ready for the Harry Potter: Forbidden Forest adventure on the Mornington Peninsula until 30 June when The Briars Community Forest in Mount Martha will turn into a legit dark and magical forest.
- The Broadway sensation Wicked looks at what happened in the Land of Oz… but from a different angle. See it at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre until 30 June.
- Victoria’s zoos are being transformed into prehistoric playgrounds with Zoos Victoria’s new Dinos at the Zoo immersive experience providing an unforgettable journey back in time until 14 July.
- Melbourne Museum will showcase some of Victoria’s most outstanding VCE and VCE VET design and technology students when Top Designs returns for 2024. The showcase runs until 14 July.
- Exclusive to Bendigo Art Gallery, Paris: Impressions of Life 1880–1925 takes visitors on a journey through the lively and picturesque streets of historic Paris. You can see it until 14 July.
- Sunset Boulevard’s triumphant return to Australia after nearly thirty years is playing at the Princess Theatre until 11 August, starring Sarah Brightman and delivering a captivating tale of love, loss, and the pursuit of dreams.
- Take a trip down memory lane, with the iconic celebrity handprints from a former Bourke Street hardware store, McEwans, making their triumphant return to the CBD at the City Gallery at Melbourne Town Hall in an exhibition until 16 August.
- Celebrating culture, nostalgia, and the pursuit of happiness, the Immigration Museum’s expansive exhibition Joy features seven Victorian-based artists showcasing their interpretations of joy through immersive installations, until 29 August.
- Visited by more than 10 million people around the world and earning a spot on CNN’s “must-see” list, The Art of the Brick is running until 31 August at the Melbourne Showgrounds. This brand new, immersive version of Nathan Sawaya’s iconic LEGO art exhibit features original collections, over 100 sculptures made from more than 1 million bricks, a LEGO safari, moving installations, 360 degree projections, and much more.
- Jump aboard the Skyline Ferris Wheel that promises breathtaking views of Melbourne’s cityscape, truly a one-of-a-kind vantage point to see a unique perspective of the CBD and beyond. It’s at the Polly Woodside Park next to MCEC until September.
- Endless play abounds at ACMI this winter, as world premiere exhibition Beings comes alive until 29 September 2024. Comprised of 13 artworks drawn from the 20-year career of international art and design collective Universal Everything – including the premiere of four brand new artworks – Beings features an assortment of curious characters born from code.
- Hair Pieces at the Head Museum of Modern Art runs until ^6 October and explores the evocative and complex significance of hair in contemporary culture through a selection of recent Australian and international works of art.
- To mark the bicentenary of the death of Lord Byron, Melbourne’s Hellenic Museum has premiered The Spirit of Byron: Philhellenism and the Greek War of Independence, an original exhibition exploring Greece’s fight for freedom and Lord Byron’s legacy through a curated selection of works on paper from The Robertson Collection. Showing daily until January 2025.

- The Good Food and Wine Show continues at MCEC on 1- 2 June.
- There’ll be a Four Pillars pop-up shop in the middle of LaManna Supermarket in Essendon Fields until Monday 3 June with gin tasting and cocktail classes across the four days.

- Matsumura Blues Festival is an exciting new music festival launching on 1 June 2024 as ten bands perform at the iconic Prince Bandroom in St Kilda.
