The Museum of Play and Art (MoPA) has announced it will be opening a third location – this time in Melbourne’s north. The new Thomsatown museum is set to open some time in the spring of 2024.
The team’s first museum located in Geelong very quickly became one of the most acclaimed children’s museums in Australia, attracting thousands of visitors from all over the country every week.
The museums opportunities for play-based learning and creative exploration with a range of immersive exhibits where children and families can have fun and learn together.
A second MoPA location was opened in the bayside suburb of Sandringham in 2022.
The Thomastown location will be in a building with an artistic history – originally a pottery studio that was built in 1923 and played host to potters from around the world for more than 50 years.
The building is now set to be reimagined as a children’s museum with immersive learning experiences, dance, theatre, art and crafts and storytelling, and will be the go-to place for kids parties, family outings and play dates.
The MoPA team is also promising to share an update about a potential eastern suburbs location later this year.
