As winter sets in across the state, it’s time to welcome back whales to the waters off Phillip Island and the Bass Coast as part of their annual migration. Each year between May and October, around 400 humpback whales, southern right whales and orcas pass through the area as they migrate from Antarctica to the warmer waters off Queensland where they give birth to their calves.
The Island Whale Festival from 5-7 July celebrates the arrival of these majestic creatures with a range of events across the festival weekend.
Ranging from the cozy festival hub at Berninneit to the whale discovery trail and the whale watching cruises, the Island Whale Festival has it all, with a unique range of activities providing fun for all ages.
The main event is in the festival hub where you can purchase a Festival Experience Pass and explore a heap of different things to do from live music to arts and crafts to talks about marine life and their complexities.
The festival provides an opportunity to engage with a range of activities that will not only entertain but also allow you to appreciate the wildlife and natural habitats of Phillip Island and the Bass Coast region.
Grab your warm clothing and a pair of binoculars, head out to one of the fantastic vantage points from Phillip Island, Bass Coast to Inverloch, and marvel at the area’s stunning landscapes along the way.
