Batman in Concert is coming to Australia as Warner Bros. Discovery celebrates 85 years of Batman.
Don’t miss the chance to witness the epic 1989 Batman film on the big screen with John Foreman’s Australian Pops Orchestra performing the iconic Danny Elfman score in Melbourne’s opulent and historic Regent Theatre.
Batman – Live in Concert is part of a global tour that brings the Warner Bros. Pictures’ 1989 blockbuster film directed by Tim Burton to symphony halls around the globe as part of the DC in Concert series.
Burton’s Batman film redefined the superhero genre, blending a dark, gothic aesthetic with a psychological depth that had been absent from previous portrayals. Starring Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne/Batman and Jack Nicholson as the Joker, the film explores the duality of its characters, particularly the fragile line between heroism and madness.
Keaton’s subdued yet intense performance contrasts sharply with Nicholson’s flamboyant, chaotic Joker, creating a dynamic that drives the film’s narrative. Burton’s vision brought Gotham City to life as a sprawling, shadowy metropolis, mirroring the internal struggles of its vigilante protector.
The movie’s visual style, supported by Danny Elfman’s iconic score, set a new standard for superhero films, moving away from the campiness of earlier adaptations. Batman became a cultural phenomenon, paving the way for future darker interpretations of comic book heroes and influencing the genre for decades to come.
Enjoy the film projected onto a larger-than-life screen while Danny Elfman’s Grammy-nominated musical score is performed by a live orchestra. As well as an enhanced concert experience, there will also be spectacular stage lighting, post-event autographs, merchandise sales, and more.
Dress up as your favourite DC Super Hero or Super-Villain. Make sure to secure your seats and become part of the Gotham City legacy.
