A celestial formation will hover above its own shimmering reflection on the Yarra River’s surface after dark, glowing and morphing and refracting from Thursday 22 August as part of the City of Melbourne’s spring Now or Never festival.
Constellations by Studio Lemercier is described as “an abstract journey through the geometric structure formed by the universe.”
The mysterious audiovisual installation can be seen from the bank of the river at the Southbank Promenade, where light will be projected onto invisible water particles that will form shapes and intangible structures in the air, resulting in 3D-like visuals.
This environment becomes a gate for the exploration of the cosmos, allowing us to travel through the planets and stars, moving from the heart of a black hole into deep space while keeping our feet planted firmly on the ground.
The light show is accompanied by an ominous electronic soundscape by sound artist Paul Jebanasam.
Constellations by Studio Lemercier runs for 15 minutes and can be seen on Thursday 22-Sunday 25 August and Thursday 29-Saturday 31 August. It will run from 6-11pm each day except for Sunday 25 August when it will run from 6-10pm.
