The Astronomical Society of Victoria (ASV) is set to host its second Sea Lake Astro Fest, following the success of the 2023 event.
Taking place over the Melbourne Cup Weekend from 2-4 November, the festival will offer a range of astronomical experiences in the unique location of Sea Lake, North Western Victoria.
Attendees can enjoy presentations from guest speakers and ASV volunteers, who will share their knowledge of the night sky. The event caters to the whole family, with activities like Science for Kids, a Q&A dinner, and a fun pub quiz.
Daytime activities include safe solar viewing through specialised telescopes, providing a close-up view of the sun.
The public viewing night on 2 November will take place at Lake Terrell – one of Victoria’s most breathtaking natural wonders – a shallow, salt-crusted basin. Its name, derived from the local Wergaia word for ‘sky,’ reflects the stunning reflections it creates, making it a renowned destination for photographers and stargazers alike.
During the Sea Lake Astro Fest, ASV volunteers will be on-site with telescopes set up for attendees to explore the night sky. Visitors will have the chance to observe planets, nebulae, star clusters, and distant galaxies in one of the clearest night skies in Australia.
There will also be astrophotography sessions, where attendees can learn how to capture stunning images of the cosmos.
With limited tickets available, this is a perfect opportunity to experience the wonders of the universe in a truly unique setting.
