Beloved Fitzroy institution, the Rochester Hotel on Johnston Street – affectionately known as The Rochey, is back and has reclaimed its place in Melbourne’s vibrant creative scene.
Known for its live music and buzzing atmosphere throughout the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, The Rochey has now returned with a fresh team, a revamped menu, and an inviting interior update.
The Front Bar welcomes guests with high ceilings, sunlit windows, and plenty of seating options around its classic U-shaped bar. A cozy fireplace, pool table, and street-side seating offer warmth and a relaxed vibe.
The Bowie Bar, a semi-private cocktail nook, leads to the Dining Area, while a spacious Beer Garden at the back provides a second pool table and outdoor seating, creating a laid-back retreat.
There’s also thrilling new music series ‘Upstairs @ The Rochey’, presented by Castle Events, launching on 2 November! Some of the best electronic musicians in the country, who regularly play to thousands at festivals, will be entertaining in the intimate 150 person venue.
Upstairs @ The Rochey will provide guests an exclusive opportunity to see these high calibre artists in a unique setting, with the musicians rarely playing in such a limited capacity room and such a small crowd.
With one of Melbourne’s best happy hours from 4-7 p.m. daily, guests can savour $8 pints and house wines, $14 cocktails, and $8.80 sharing plates. Weekly specials like $15 burger Wednesdays (perfect for Trivia Night), $22 steak Thursdays, and a Sunday roast for $25 make dining wallet-friendly and fun.
Executive Chef Bonngyo Seo’s menu elevates pub classics with high-quality ingredients and seasonal specials. Highlights include crispy fried squid, mac and cheese croquettes, and the house-made chicken parma, while vegetarians enjoy dishes like mushroom fettuccine and miso-glazed tofu steak.
