Melbourne’s skyline will dazzle this New Year’s Eve with the largest rooftop laser display in the Southern Hemisphere alongside the annual fireworks.
Visible and audible from anywhere with a view of the city skyline, the breathtaking spectacle will illuminate over six square kilometres across 27 towering skyscrapers, creating a visually stunning welcome to 2025.
Themed “All That Sparkles,” the celebration promises an evening packed with activities, music, and vibrant energy. The centerpiece is an eight-minute laser and light show at midnight, synchronized to a specially curated soundtrack produced in collaboration with Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren.
For the best experience, head to one of the family-friendly Celebration Zones in Docklands, Flagstaff Gardens, Treasury Gardens, or the Shrine of Remembrance. These areas will host live music, dance workshops, food vendors, and a special 9:30 PM fireworks display for early revelers.
With around 500,000 attendees expected, the festivities are set to inject approximately $18 million into Melbourne’s local economy.
Iconic venues like The Langham, AFLOAT, HER, Fed Square, and Blossom Rooftop will join the celebrations, while John Foreman’s Australian Pops Orchestra will deliver a gala concert at Arts Centre Melbourne.
For those celebrating at home, Channel 9 and 9Now will broadcast the excitement live from 11 PM, ensuring everyone can partake in the city’s glittering farewell to 2024.
The City of Melbourne will work with Victoria Police and emergency services providers to ensure safety is a priority on the night.
Merrymakers are encouraged to plan ahead, and book into a venue or attend a Celebration Zone. Detailed information on road closures, including changes to traffic and pedestrian access are available on our the City of Melbourne’s New Years Eve website.
Melbourne Lord Mayor Nick Reece said: “Melbourne sparkles year-round – but it’s time to throw on your bling and ring in the New Year in the best city on Earth.”
“We’ll be putting on a spectacular rooftop display of lasers and fireworks – if you can see the city skyline, you’ll be mesmerised by our world-class show,” he said.
“As one of the first cities to cheer as the clock strikes midnight, we’ll be showing the rest of the world how it’s done.”
“We encourage everyone to stay safe and plan ahead, so they don’t miss out. Book into one of our iconic venues or visit a Celebration Zone in advance to get the most fun out of the festivities.”
