Jells Park in Melbourne’s southeast, is undergoing a series of upgrades to enhance its accessibility and appeal.
The cherished 127-hectare green space in Wheelers Hill is popular with visitors seeking to immerse themselves in nature. Known for its serene lake, extensive picnic areas, and contemporary play spaces, the park is ideal for families and outdoor enthusiasts.
With $5.9 million from the Victorian Government, work has commenced on two new shared-use trails. A scenic Bushland Trail will allow visitors to walk, run, or cycle through lush greenery without disturbing native flora and fauna, while the shorter Lake Trail will loop around the park’s café and playscapes, offering stunning lake views.
Both trails will feature lighting, signage, seating, and drinking fountains, making them accessible for all ages and abilities. Completion is expected by mid-2025.
Beyond the trails, there are other works underway in Jells Park. A $4 million project at the southern Oaks and Ashes ovals will introduce multipurpose sports fields, inclusive change rooms, and a pavilion to support activities like local cricket. Upgrades to viewing platforms and the Oaks playground are also planned.
Meanwhile, the Jells Park Café is being transformed, with a new kiosk area opening soon and a revamped dining space set for completion by year’s end.
