A striking installation is available to view this summer as the Shrine of Remembrance continues to celebrate its 90th anniversary. Ribbon of Reflection is a vibrant tribute to Australia’s military history, inspired by the striking colours of military medal ribbons, this unique pathway invites visitors to reflect on the stories of bravery, sacrifice, and service woven into our nation’s fabric.
Each ribbon, with its distinct hues, represents the courage and dedication of Australians who have served.
Located in the Gallipoli Memorial Garden off Birdwood Avenue, the installation leads directly to the Shrine of Remembrance Visitor Centre. Inside, visitors can explore the Gallery of Medals, home to an interpretive timeline showcasing the history of military medals awarded to Australians.
The Ribbon of Reflection extends beyond the garden. Artwork inspired by the installation decorates tram shelters along St Kilda Road, and a specially designed tram (#3504) operates on Routes 5, 6, 16, and 72. These mobile tributes ensure the commemoration reaches the heart of Melbourne.
Running until 31 January 2025, this installation is an invitation to honour those who have served while engaging with Australia’s rich military heritage.
