This summer, Melbourne’s National Gallery of Victoria Friday Nights promises to dazzle art lovers and night owls alike with an after-hours celebration of Yayoi Kusama’s iconic work. Running for 18 weeks, this event series pairs Kusama’s kaleidoscopic artistry with live music, gourmet dining, and immersive experiences.
Guests can explore Kusama’s most comprehensive Australian exhibition yet, spanning her extraordinary eight-decade career.
Highlights include her mesmerizing infinity mirror rooms, the striking Dancing Pumpkin sculpture, and the ever-enchanting Narcissus Garden. After dark, Kusama’s vibrant world comes alive, offering visitors a sensory feast of colour, form, and reflection.
In the NGV Garden Restaurant, celebrated chef Martin Benn will present a menu inspired by his deep connection to Japanese cuisine. Combining seasonal Australian ingredients with Asian flavors, Benn’s dishes promise an unforgettable culinary experience.
Live DJ performances in NGV’s Great Hall add to the evening’s energy, featuring artists like Elle Shimada, Dijok, and Tanzer. Special guest takeovers by Asia TOPA and Midsumma will spotlight diverse talents from the Asia-Pacific and LGBTQIA+ communities.
Sip on drinks from Moët & Chandon, Four Pillars Gin, or the Yering Station Wine Bar, and don’t miss the summer treats at Häagen-Dazs. For a full sensory journey, visit Soft by Schweppes, a multi-sensory installation debuting in the NGV Garden.
