Award-winning Indigenous Australian singer-songwriter Emily Wurramara is set to perform at The Workers Club in Fitzroy on 7 February, 2025 as part of a round of encore album tour dates. This marks her first headline show at the venue in nine years.
She’s also been recently announced to play at the Riverboats Music Festival in Echuca on 15 February and the Treaty Day out in Morwell on 8 February.
Wurramarra is fresh off of celebrating back-to-back wins at the ARIA Awards (Best Adult Contemporary Album – NARA) and the J Awards (rage & triple j Film Clip of the Year ) the former of which officially adds her to the history books as the first Indigenous woman to ever win in this category since the awards inception in 1987
Known for her captivating storytelling and soulful melodies, Wurramara has been making waves in the music industry since her debut EP, “Black Smoke,” in 2016.
A Warnindhilyagwa woman from Groote Eylandt, Emily spent her early years between Brisbane and the Northern Territory. Her music, often sung in both English and Anindilyakwa, beautifully blends contemporary Australian blues and roots with her Indigenous heritage. Her debut album, “Milyakburra,” released in 2018, earned her an ARIA Award nomination and an AIR Award win, among other accolades.
Wurramara’s latest album, “Nara,” released in August 2024, has been praised for its emotional depth and powerful storytelling. The album, which took five years to create, explores themes of self-acceptance and connection to land and family.
