Melbourning had the pleasure of attending the launch event for Patron’s new prestige El Alto Tequila at Electric in Prahran. From the moment I took my first sip of the drink I was handed on arrival – served neat in a flute – I was captivated by the aroma from its blend of fresh herbs, maple, cinnamon, and a hint of sesame oil.
I was struck by both the smoothness and complexity. The flavours unfolded beautifully, starting with a rich caramel and vanilla base, then moving to subtle notes of fresh fig and a hint of white pepper. The balance of flavours was impeccable—neither too sweet nor too sharp. .
Crafted from 100% Weber Blue Agave grown in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico it is said this unique creation took over four years of careful work and over 300 tastings to perfect.
The El Alto is able to be enjoyed neat or on the rocks, letting it take centre stage, but I can imagine it would also elevate any sophisticated cocktail. We were able to try it in various concoctions with juices like pineapple, cranberry and orange as well as soda water and lime.
At around $315 a bottle, this one is definitely a splurge, but the craftsmanship and depth of flavour make it worth every penny for special occasions. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone or simply indulging in a luxurious night in, Patron’s El Alto Tequila is a treat you won’t regret.
