Graney and Moore are icons of the Australian music scene, with a career spanning over four decades. Emerging in the post-punk era, they first gained attention with their band The Moodists in the early 1980s, earning a reputation for their dark, brooding sound and compelling live performances.
By the late ’80s, the duo had shifted gears, forming Dave Graney and The Coral Snakes, a group that blended rock, lounge, and cabaret influences. This period saw their commercial breakthrough, with albums like Night of the Wolverine (1993) and You Wanna Be There But You Don’t Wanna Travel (1994), which delivered quirky, literate songs that became cult favourites. Graney’s rich, charismatic voice and wry storytelling, combined with Moore’s inventive drumming and multi-instrumental prowess, defined their sound and cemented their place in Australian music history.
Beyond their work with bands, Graney and Moore have also excelled as a duo, crafting experimental, genre-defying music that embraces rock, jazz, and avant-garde influences. They’ve released numerous albums under various guises, always pushing creative boundaries and challenging audience expectations.
