Her Majesty’s Theatre Ballarat is set to mark its 150th birthday in grand style this weekend, with a trio of spectacular events that promise to bring the historic venue to life like never before.
The milestone celebration, supported by a $16.3 million redevelopment, will showcase the theatre’s transformation into a thriving cultural hub, offering the public unprecedented access to its iconic spaces.
The festivities kick off on Friday, 31 January with a star-studded comedy gala featuring Australia’s biggest names, including Tom Ballard, Zoë Coombs Marr, and Dilruk Jayasinha.
On 1 February, the theatre will host a local music community takeover, where every corner of the building will come alive with performances, culminating in the debut of a newly-written Ballarat anthem.
Families and children can join the fun on 2 February with an interactive adventure, exploring hidden areas of the theatre normally off-limits to guests.
City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Tracey Hargreaves hailed the celebrations as the dawn of a new era for the venue.
“The most amazing part about this show is that it’s not just limited to the stage, the entire theatre is going to come alive,” she said.
“2025 marks 150 years of Victoria’s oldest and most beautiful theatre being the premier venue for arts and entertainment.”
With tickets selling fast, this is a birthday bash you won’t want to miss.
