Victoria Street in Richmond will come alive on 2 February 2 as the Victoria Street Lunar Festival returns to celebrate the Year of the Snake and mark a historic milestone: 50 years of Vietnamese migration to Australia.
This vibrant cultural extravaganza, set in the heart of Melbourne’s Vietnamese community, promises a day of traditional music, mouthwatering street food, dazzling firecrackers and more, offering a sensory feast for all who attend.
The 2025 festival holds special significance as it kicks off a year-long celebration honouring the first generation of Vietnamese refugees who arrived in Australia in the mid-1970s, fleeing the aftermath of the Vietnam War.
Their resilience and contributions have profoundly shaped Australia’s multicultural fabric, enriching the nation culturally and economically. Victoria Street, a bustling hub of Vietnamese culture, business, and community is the perfect backdrop for this commemoration.
Throughout the year, the City of Yarra council will host installations, projects, and events to recognise the Vietnamese community’s enduring legacy.
But the Lunar Festival is where it all begins—a joyous gathering that bridges generations and cultures. Don’t miss this unforgettable celebration of heritage, unity, and new beginnings.
