Canadian Bluegrass four-piece The Dead South return to Australia and New Zealand this November and December for their biggest shows yet, following two sold out tours across the last two years. Melbourne fans will be able to catch them at Festival Hall on Wednesday 3 December.
Known for their energetic performances, gritty storytelling, and distinctive sound, The Dead South formed in 2012 in Regina, Saskatchewan.
The group blends traditional bluegrass with modern folk influences, featuring fast-paced banjo, cello, guitar, and mandolin. Their signature look—black suits, white shirts, and wide-brimmed hats—adds to their outlaw aesthetic.
Songs like In Hell I’ll Be in Good Company and Banjo Odyssey showcase their dark humor, intricate instrumentation, and raw vocals. With a dedicated global fan base, The Dead South continues to push the boundaries of bluegrass, bringing an edgy, foot-stomping twist to the genre.
“Starting a couple years back, every time we’d post tour dates we’d see dozens of comments asking when we’re coming to Australia and New Zealand,” the band said in a statement. “
A couple years ago we toured there for the first time and it immediately became one of our favourite places. Let’s make it an annual thing, shall we? We can’t wait to see you all again in November and December! We’re even hitting the south island this time. See you all soon!”
