Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox played at Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on 10 February with their Magic & Moonlight tour, taking the crowd on a trip back in time with their signature vintage vibes. Known for flipping modern pop hits into retro classics, PMJ delivered a night full of jaw-dropping performances, killer vocals, and a whole lot of old-school charm.
The setlist was a wild mix of some of the biggest tunes from the past 30 years reimagined as 1920s jazz, swing, and Motown bangers. Think “Basketcase” by Green Day, the Spice Girls’ “Say You’ll Be There” and Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” – with a twist.
Sara Niemiętz opened the show with her version of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” which is one of PMJ’s most popular songs on YouTube – belting it right out of the park and setting the scene for an incredible night.
Every song felt fresh yet nostalgic, with the band and singers decked out in period costumes that made you feel like you’d stepped into a speakeasy or a 1950s dance hall. The vocalists absolutely crushed it, belting out hits with soul and style, while the band’s solos were next-level, showing off their serious chops.
The standout performance of the evening was delivered by Effie Passero with her rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” showcasing her incredible range. This soaring, moving performance had everyone in Hamer Hall on their feet at the end giving a standing ovation.
The whole production was a feast for the senses, with dreamy lighting and a stage setup that matched the throwback theme perfectly. But what really made the night special was how connected the performers felt with the crowd—they chatted, joked, and made everyone feel like part of the show.
By the end of the night, the Melbourne audience was buzzing. PMJ’s Magic & Moonlight tour was the perfect mix of nostalgia and modern flair, leaving everyone wanting more.
