Wyndham City’s free light festival, LIT, is set to transform Werribee into a glowing wonderland this autumn, running for 14 magical nights from 27 March to 13 April.
As the sun sets, Wyndham Park will come alive with dazzling light installations, including giant iridescent bubbles, towering wildflowers, glowing animal sculptures, and fantastical trees, creating a dreamlike experience for all ages.
Wyndham City Mayor Cr Mia Shaw said the award-winning festival will feature extended opening hours and expanded Sensory Friendly Nights, making it more accessible than ever. “
The 2024 festival received an award for Creativity and Culture at the National Awards for Local Government last year, and this year brings fresh new experiences,” Cr Shaw said.
“This year we’re excited to be able to extend LIT’s opening hours and make the most of those longer nights, with an earlier start time of 7pm. For the first time, LIT will also coincide with the first week of the school holidays, providing even more opportunities for families to enjoy the fun.”
Highlights of this year’s festival include the Ephemeral Collection by Atelier Sisu, featuring over 50 iridescent bubbles that radiate colour and sound, and The Guardians, a stunning installation celebrating Australian wildflowers by Matthew Aberline.
Visitors can also explore glowing animal sculptures by The Lanternist and marvel at Tarutharu – The Kaurna Skink, a 27-metre-long glowing sculpture created in collaboration with Kaurna representatives.
New additions include Ctrl-Alt-Self by Studio John Fish, a GOBO light walk by local artist Ariadne Concha, and magical slide projections designed by Wyndham students. Following last year’s success, the Sensory Friendly Night program has been expanded, with a new quiet sensory space to ensure the festival is welcoming for everyone.
Cr Shaw emphasised the festival’s impact on the community, with 75,000 attendees last year and a boost for local businesses.
“It’s fantastic to see LIT continue to grow and evolve as a signature event for our City, providing free, high-quality creative experiences for our community in their own backyard,” she said. “With LIT located just a short stroll away from Watton Street – it’s the perfect opportunity to love your local and make a night of it and enjoy dinner from one of our amazing local restaurants, bars and takeaway businesses in Werribee City Centre.”
