Victorians are being given the chance to name the West Gate Tunnel Project’s twin tunnels that will soon change the way people travel across Melbourne’s west.
Minister for Transport Infrastructure Gabrielle Williams says Victorians cansubmit names for the twin tunnels that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge and remove 9,000 trucks off local roads.
Possible names could recognise the west’s local legends, landmarks, history, or cultural heritage.
There will be no “Boaty McBoatface” style shenanigans with this naming contest: there won’t be a popular vote for the name – all submissions will be reviewed by a selection committee and the final names will be revealed later this year before motorists drive through the tunnels.
Every Victorians who submits a valid entry will go into the draw to win a $500 Shell Coles Express voucher – and the winners will also have the opportunity to donate $2,500 towards a community organisation or charity.
Submissions are open until Monday, 31 March. To learn more about how you can name the West Gate Tunnel Project’s twin tunnels, visit westgatetunnelproject.vic.gov.au/nameyourtunnels.
