Melbourne’s iconic Flinders Street Station ballroom is set to host a unique and immersive experience as part of the 2025 RISING festival.
Swingers: The Art of Mini Golf will transform the historic space into a surreal nine-hole mini golf course, featuring works by some of the world’s most dynamic female-identifying artists. This playable art exhibition, running from June 4 to August 31, promises to be a highlight of the 2025 RISING program.
Curated by RISING Senior Curator Grace Herbert, the exhibition draws on the subversive history of mini golf, which originated in the 19th century when Scottish women, banned from ‘real’ golf courses, created their own version of the game.
The artists involved, including Miranda July, Kaylene Whiskey, Saeborg, Nabilah Nordin, and Delaine Le Bas, will bring their unique perspectives to the course, incorporating elements of mythology, technology, and social commentary1.
Visitors can expect a truly immersive experience, with interactive artworks that challenge traditional notions of mini golf. Alongside playing the course, attendees might have their fortunes told, travel to desert country, or even find themselves singing along to Dolly Parton
. Swingers: The Art of Mini Golf is set to be a game-changer, blending art and play in a way that celebrates creativity and community.
