The state government has announced it is bringing back a fan favourite with the Track Walk returning for the first time since 2023 at this year’s Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
Fans will once again be able to walk the 5.3km Albert Park circuit when the Grand Prix finishes on Sunday 16 March.
A ban was placed on fans being able to enter the track in 2024 following an incident in 2023 where some spectators broke through the security barriers and entered the track before the race had finished.
A range of measures will be put in place to ensure the Track Walk can return safely, including purpose-built barrier gates to allow controlled access to the track, increased track protection infrastructure and increased security.
Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO Travis Auld said: “The Track Walk is a unique and cherished experience for our fans, and we are very excited to be able to welcome it back for 2025 and have this incredible moment shared around the world.”
“There is nothing quite like seeing the passionate fans join in the celebration following the race and we can only hope that this year they’re celebrating an Aussie on the podium,” he said.
This year’s Grand Prix will be bigger and better than ever – with a family-friendly festival announced this week for F1 fans of all ages to enjoy, for free running from Wednesday 12 March to Sunday 16 March at Melbourne Park Oval.
The Grand Prix is expected to have another record-breaking year in 2025, with tickets already sold out on Saturday and Sunday and only limited availability remaining for the Friday. The 2024 Grand Prix attracted a crowd of 452,055 people – beating the previous record set in 2023 by more than 7,000 people.
