Rod Laver Arena is set to play host to the Super Netball Final in August – with the blockbuster event expected to see more than 14,000 fans pack the stadium, making it the biggest ever crowd at a netball grand final.
The 2023 grand final at John Cain Arena drew thousands of fans from around the country, with a sold-out crowd of 9,622 witnessing a thriller between the New South Wales Swifts and the Adelaide Thunderbirds – and an economic impact of more than $6.9 million for Victoria.
Fans have been flocking to to Super Netball games in record numbers, with more than 330,000 people attending home and away games in 2024 – a 25 per cent increase on 2023.
As part of the state government’s partnership with Netball Australia, major netball events have been played across Victoria, including the Origin Australian Diamonds series against England last September in Bendigo and a Constellation Cup battle with New Zealand in October at John Cain.
Also announced late last year, national netball events will be held in regional Victoria so fans can experience the magic and excitement close to home. In a landmark three-year partnership with Netball Victoria, three annual pre-season events will take place in Ballarat, Bendigo and Traralgon.
As part of the deal, Netball Victoria will host junior clinics, fan engagement opportunities and coaching and umpiring workshops in the regional towns.
