The Matildas are set to ignite Marvel Stadium when they take on Argentina’s La Albiceleste in a high-stakes international showdown on Friday 30 May 2025 —kicking off a thrilling two-match series ahead of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup 2026.
With the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in South America on the horizon, these matches are crucial for Australia’s preparation.
Football Australia CEO James Johnson said: “We are delighted to secure Argentina, one of the top South American nations… These matches will help us refine our approach heading into a tournament that will also serve as a Women’s World Cup Qualifier.”
The Matildas have history on their side, having defeated Argentina 3-0 in their last Melbourne meeting during the 2019 Cup of Nations. Now, with a roaring home crowd behind them, they’ll look to repeat that magic.
Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos added: “We’re thrilled to welcome the Matildas back… to give Victorians another opportunity to see one of the most exciting teams in world football.”
Canberra’s GIO Stadium will host the second clash on Monday, 2 June (7:30PM AEST).
Tickets go on pre-sale Friday, 28 March (10:00AM AEDT) for Football Australia Account Holders, with general public sales from Monday, 31 March (4:00PM AEDT). Don’t miss your chance to witness football at its finest—secure your seats before they’re gone!
