Prepare to be captivated as internationally acclaimed artist Bruce Munro unveils his latest masterpiece, the Trail of Lights, set to illuminate Mildura’s Lock Island from 4 April 2025.
Renowned for his iconic Field of Light at Uluru, Munro brings his visionary artistry to Victoria, promising an enchanting fusion of light and landscape. The prominent light artist has also produced large-scale, immersive works that have lit up spaces across the globe including in the US, UK, Europe and South Korea.
The Trail of Lights comprises more than 12,500 illuminated ‘fireflies’ and 22 ‘Gone Fishing’ sculptures, creating a mesmerising pathway through the island’s natural beauty. As night descends, these installations will transform Lock Island into a luminous wonderland, inviting visitors to embark on a reflective journey amidst the gentle glow of flickering lights.
The first of two installations by the artist in the region, Trail of Lights will later this year be joined by an installation in Wentworth, on the New South Wales side of the Murray River called Fibre Optic Symphonic Orchestra (FOSO).
“In an increasingly busy world, Trail of Lights was designed to create a moment of stillness and contemplation within a natural setting – because magic happens when art and nature meet,” Munro said.
“I’m grateful to both the Victorian Government and the Mildura Rural City Council for supporting this installation, I hope it brings lots of light to the community.”
The Trail of Lights is anticipated to draw over 100,000 visitors within its first two years, significantly boosting Mildura’s cultural and economic landscape.
The installation opens to the public on the evening of Friday, 4 April 2025. For more information, and to purchase tickets, visit mildura.com/lights/
