One of Melbourne’s most beloved live music venues, The Night Cat, is calling on the community to help safeguard its future.
For more than 30 years, The Night Cat has been a cornerstone of Fitzroy’s vibrant music scene, known for its immersive 360-degree stage and legendary performances from artists like Charli XCX, Sampa The Great, and Amyl and the Sniffers. But now, this cultural institution is under immediate threat.
Rapid development in the City of Yarra has brought rising compliance demands, putting the venue at risk of closure unless it can afford costly soundproofing upgrades. In response, The Night Cat has launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking over $60,000 for essential improvements, including sound monitoring equipment, sound-limiting solutions, and expert acousticians.
“As an independently owned venue, we simply can’t shoulder these costs alone and continue to operate,” said Justin Stanford, owner of The Night Cat.
“These upgrades aren’t just about today – they’ll protect The Night Cat for years to come,” he added.
“Live music is at the heart of Fitzroy, and we need to act now to ensure this venue continues to support artists, provide jobs, and bring music lovers together.”
Donations can be made via the venue’s GoFundMe page.
