From 2-18 May 2025, Melbourne’s inner west will come alive with the Sleepless Footscray Festival, a dynamic celebration of art, music, and community spirit.
This year’s festival transforms Footscray’s CBD into a vibrant canvas, showcasing eclectic performances in repurposed venues, disused shop fronts, and forgotten hubs. Attendees can explore a diverse array of cultural activities, from indie gigs to interactive art installations, all designed to challenge and inspire.
A highlight of the festival is “Footscray Celebrates Africa,” a free, all-ages event on May 17 that transforms Nicholson Street Mall into a lively cultural street party. The celebration features performances by Jarabi Band, Mandé Spirit, Seben Brothers, and WALA is Life, with legendary PBS broadcaster Stani Goma hosting the festivities.
Other notable events include “The Door In Question,” an immersive theatre production illustrating the experience of living with mental illness, and “Year Of The Freak – A Homecoming,” a surreal installation by Golden Scissor Puppets.
Supported by the Maribyrnong City Council, the Sleepless Footscray Festival continues to highlight Footscray as a safe, vibrant, and multicultural hub, celebrating the bold, creative spirit of Melbourne’s inner west.
