From a small fermentery in Warburton to the world stage, Hairy Armadillo has made an impressive debut by securing a Silver Medal at the 2025 World Alcohol-Free Awards in London. Their Snow Daisy Sparkling Tea stood out among nearly 600 entries from over 30 countries, proving that non-alcoholic beverages can deliver sophistication, complexity, and a truly unique drinking experience.
The World Alcohol-Free Awards, the only international competition dedicated exclusively to beverages of 0.5% ABV and below, brings together experts to celebrate innovation in this rapidly growing category.
Chris Losh, Director of the Awards, noted the increasing sophistication of entries: “In three years, we’ve seen a marked shift towards balanced, complex drinks rather than just fruity and sugary options. The bar is being raised every year, so winning a top medal is a real achievement.”

Hairy Armadillo Founder Allan Sweeney sees this recognition as validation of their approach: “As the sector matures, Gen Z and Millennials are seeking beverages with unique flavour profiles—not just imitations of beer, wine, or spirits.” Snow Daisy Sparkling Tea, with its earthy, spicy aromas and notes of coriander seed, malt loaf, and raisins, impressed judges as a “grown-up drink” with velvety tannins and refreshing acidity—perfect for food pairing.
This win comes as Australians increasingly embrace mindful drinking, with the non-alcoholic beverage market projected to grow at 5% annually through 2028. Sparkling tea, in particular, is carving out a niche in hospitality, offering sommeliers and restaurateurs a new way to tell stories through flavour and provenance.
“We’re not offering substitutes—we’re creating a new class of drinks,” Sweeney said. “This award proves Hairy Armadillo Sparkling Tea deserves its place at the table because it has earned it.”
