The NGV Teens: Art Party kicks off the school year on Saturday 2 March, bringing like-minded teens together to explore the NGV after-hours and enjoy a night of art, dance, performance and spectacle celebrating the magic of NGV Triennial.
Inspired by one of the Triennial themes, Magic, attendees are invited to dress fun and creatively, ready to hit the dance floor, join in a creative workshop or capture the night in NGV photobooths. By opening the doors exclusively to this demographic, NGV aims to cultivate a lifelong appreciation for art and creativity among teens, encouraging them to explore their own artistic interests, perspectives and meet new people on an unforgettable night.
Among the highlights of the event is a dynamic DJ set by Dirty Bird, a duo comprising stand-up comedian Jaxson Garni and drag queen Aysha Buffet. Their flamboyant music sets with dazzling costumes and pop teen anthems, will keep attendees dancing under the mesmerising stained-glass ceiling of the Great Hall all night long.
Groov3, led by the energetic Aisha Mary, will be gracing the Great Hall stage to deliver the ultimate dance party vibes. Combining the coolest dance moves with the latest jams, this choreography workshop encourages everyone to dance like nobody is watching in a judgment free zone. Attendees of all skill levels and abilities are invited to participate in the high-energy dance performance and dance the night away.
Adding to the Great Hall spectacle, circus artist Bede Nash will entertain audiences with a fast-paced hula hoop act, showcasing his exceptional talent and years of training.
Trophy Wife Nail Art owner Chelsea Bagan, a nail artist who has worked with celebrities such as FKA Twigs and Bruce Springsteen, will operate a pop-up nail salon. Teens will have the chance to adorn their nails with statement designs inspired by artworks in NGV Triennial.
Su’s Studio is a mixed-media art workshop led by Melbourne-based, Korean-Australian artist Suyeon Park. Attendees will be able to create personalised photo key charms using gems, stickers, and designs. Suyeon’s expertise in digital and traditional illustration will be shared during the session.
Tony Ellwood AM, Director, NGV said: ‘Art Party represents the NGV’s commitment to provide rich cultural experiences to audiences of all ages, including our vibrant teen community. This event not only offers an exciting night of creativity and connection but also provides an enriching opportunity for young individuals to discover the NGV Triennial 2023.’
