As part of this year’s NAIDOC Week, singer-songwriter Dan Sultan will collaborate with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to commemorate the tenth anniversary of his third studio album, Blackbird.
Following his headline performance at the Orchestra’s 2023 rendition of One Song: The Music of Archie Roach, Dan is set to reunite with the MSO for this special occasion, delivering a selection of tracks from Blackbird and other notable hits from his extensive repertoire.
Blackbird, described as ‘the simple journey of a man singing about love, desire, and identity’, showcased Sultan’s diverse talent as both a songwriter and performer. From powerful riffs to soulful gospel interludes, rock and roll anthems, country melodies, and emotive ballads, the album highlighted Sultan’s musical versatility and emotional depth.
With orchestral arrangements by Alex Turley and under the baton of Noongar conductor Aaron Wyatt, this performance marks a decade-long collaboration in the making. Sultan’s union with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra promises to be a harmonious blend of contemporary and classical music, embodying the essence of his artistic evolution over the past ten years.
The performance will take place at Hamer Hall on Friday 12 July 2024. Tickets go on sale on 29 February.
