A groundbreaking new exhibition showcasing the dynamism of contemporary Indonesian sculpture has now opened at the Art Gallery of Ballarat.
“Ebb and Flow” features more 40 stunning sculptures created by 22 visionary Indonesian artists, and is the largest exhibition of its kind ever seen in Australia.
Indonesian art has navigated a tumultuous journey, influenced by various internal and external forces, as well as governmental and secular constraints. Despite these challenges, it has emerged as one of the world’s most vibrant and exciting art scenes, dedicated to exploring profound societal themes.
“Ebb and Flow” draws from the impressive collection of Indonesian Australian collector Konfir Kabo. His passion for art and commitment to fostering cultural connections are evident in this exhibition. Kabo’s thoughtful curation highlights the diversity and rich talent of Indonesian artists, offering audiences a deeper understanding of the country’s contemporary art landscape.
This exhibition is more than just a display of sophisticated sculptures; it is a testament to Kabo’s long-term vision of bringing people together through art. By showcasing these works, “Ebb and Flow” invites us to appreciate the creativity and resilience of our Indonesian neighbuors, enriching our cultural appreciation and fostering greater inclusivity.
“Ebb and Flow” is a free exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ballarat until 22 September 2024.
