The smash hit production of A Christmas Carol is set to return to Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre for a third season this November – in what has now become Melbourne’s newest Christmas tradition.
The Old Vic production of Charles Dickens’ timeless story has been adapted for the stage by Jack Thorne (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and directed by Matthew Warchus (Matilda the Musical)
It is based on Charles Dickens’ 1843 novella that tells the story of a selfish and greedy old man, Ebenezer Scrooge, who hates everything related to Christmas. Ultimately it is a tale of compassion and redemption, after being visited by Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come, Scrooge is changed into a better man.
Winner of five Tony Awards, the Old Vic production of A Christmas Carol has delighted audiences and critics alike each season on the West End after premiering in 2017, and in Melbourne in 2022.
Australian producer Torben Brookman for GWB Entertainment said: “We are thrilled that the multi-award winning A Christmas Carol will be returning to Melbourne for a third year this Christmas season, and we look forward to sharing our exciting cast for 2024 very soon.
“The production is an incredible celebration of community, family and connectedness and we are delighted that Melbourne audiences of all ages have embraced the tradition of attending A Christmas Carol to welcome the Christmas season and connect with their loved ones,” he said.
A Christmas Carol will play for a strictly limited festive season at the Comedy Theatre from 22 November 2024. Tickets go on sale on Friday 26 July at 10am at christmascarolaustralia.com.au.
