From 29 November to 31 December, Fed Square, will become Melbourne’s hub of festive fun
and celebration with 34 free events and experiences for everyone, of all faiths and backgrounds, to come together and enjoy.
As part of the City of Melbourne’s free, city-wide Christmas Festival, the Main Square will again be transformed into the magical Christmas Square. Melburnians can continue their annual tradition of family pics by magnificent decorations such as light-up bell swings and the spectacular 17.5m Christmas tree to bring twinkling lights, songs and joy to the city.
For the first time The Australian Ballet’s beautiful Christmas classic The Nutcracker will be live streamed straight to the Fed Square big screen from the stage of the Sydney Opera House on 12 December.
The Koorie Heritage Trust’s, Koorie Krismas returns on 14 December. Families can spend a fun-filled day with free live music, DJs, dance performances and a special appearance by Koorie Klaus. There will also be a First Peoples market from artists and creators who will have options aplenty for your Krismas buying needs.
From 16 to 23 December, visitors are invited to grab takeaway from one of Fed Square’s restaurants, nab a deckchair and settle back to enjoy free films on the big screen. In partnership with United Airlines, Fed Square presents Christmas classics such as It’s a Wonderful Life, Meet Me in St Louis, The Polar Express, The Santa Clause and Elf.
Bringing a touch of the north pole to Fed Square, from 16 to 18 December, a life size snow globe will pop up for visitors to explore and capture keepsake photos.
As Camp as Christmas is back again on 20 December – presented by Fed Square and curated by The Huxleys, this joyfulqueer celebration of Christmas includes dazzling performances from The Huxleys, 2Joocee, Cerulean, Tanzer, Nefertiti LaNegra, Scotty So, and more.
Throughout December, Fed Square is a go-to destination for creative gift shopping with unique products by First Nations, local and global designers available from the ACMI Shop, shopKHT, the NGV design store and First Nations pop-up shop, Murran Melbourne.
For the first time, Fed Square will stay open for two Late Night Shopping events on Thursday 12 and 19 December, featuring exceptional shopping, visits by Santa and complimentary, decorative gift wrapping.
Getting to Fed Square this festive season couldn’t be simpler, with the city’s major public transport options on the doorstep as well as parking conveniently located at Fed Square’s car park.
