We’ve had some crazy weather in Melbourne over the past few weeks. With a strange mix of heat and humidity, sometimes you’d think we were in far north Queensland, instead of down the bottom of the continent where the humidity is usually none of our business down south.
And so I found myself with frizzy humidity hair, makeup sliding my face, at the mercy of a sweltering replacement bus to get into the city on a muggy Saturday afternoon. None of it was pleasant. But I had a mission: I was invited to spend some time drinking Bombay Sapphire gin at Father’s Office QV, thanks to Bacardi Limited.
It turned out it was the best possible way to spend an insanely sticky day: heading upstairs to Fathers’ Office was like seeking refuge in some sort of oasis. The air conditioning cooled me down. And the Bombay Sapphire and tonic was very refreshing and really hit the spot.
I’m a semi-regular gin drinker and already quite familiar with Bombay Sapphire. It’s like an old friend in a blue bottle that I have often had in the liquor cabinet over the years, or have taken along to barbecues and other gatherings. Known for its crisp, balanced profile.
Bombay Sapphire gin is infused with ten botanicals, including juniper, citrus peel, coriander, and almond. These flavours create a zesty and aromatic foundation that pairs beautifully with tonic water, resulting in a light and effervescent beverage. When poured over ice and served with sparkling tonic water and a slice of lime or lemon, it’s the perfect summer drink.
Bombay Sapphire’s lighter botanical notes make it particularly suitable for this mix, avoiding overpowering flavors and providing a refreshing clarity. Having it with soda water instead of tonic brings out the flavours of the botanicals even more.
While at Fathers Office I also tried a few gin-based cocktails, but kept coming back to the refreshing, thirst-quenching Bombay Sapphire and tonic combination.
Father’s Office itself is a vibrant bar and restaurant offering a unique blend of early 20th-century Americana charm and modern-day hospitality. Conveniently located in the heart of the city at Little Lonsdale Street, it’s just a short walk from Melbourne Central and Swanston Street, making it easily accessible by public transport.
