The critically acclaimed modern musical No Love Songs is set to sweep across Australia in 2025, bringing its powerful, heartfelt story and unforgettable songs to audiences nationwide.
Featuring an original score by Kyle Falconer, lead singer of the Scottish band The View, and starring Keegan Joyce (Rake, Please Like Me) and Lucy Maunder (Chicago, Mary Poppins), this compelling production will include a stop at Melbourne’s iconic Athenaeum Theatre from 22 July to 10 August 2025.
No Love Songs explores the highs and heartbreaks of Jessie (Joyce) and Lana (Maunder), a couple navigating the transformative and often turbulent journey of new parenthood. Inspired by Falconer’s own experiences with partner Laura Wilde, the musical captures the struggles and triumphs of young love and family life.
Featuring reimagined tracks from Falconer’s second solo album, No Love Songs for Laura, the show masterfully blends humor, raw emotion, and uplifting melodies.
The narrative takes a poignant turn as singer-songwriter Jessie’s big break in America leaves Lana isolated at home with their newborn, sparking an emotional rollercoaster. As they wrestle with the realities of their new lives, the musical asks: Can love withstand the strains of ambition and parenthood?
Produced by Rodney Rigby for Newtheatricals, No Love Songs has already left audiences captivated, following sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, London, and its American premiere.
“No Love Songs is a real love story with passion and hopes and dreams and mistakes and regrets and restarts. It’s very much about the struggle of young parents plus the anguish of being apart from loved ones and difficulty of coping with day-to-day obligations, but ultimately offers hopes and happiness,” said Producer Rodney Rigby.
“In addition to being a new musical for Australian audiences, we are also delighted that No Love Songs will be the first musical to be staged at the new Foundry Theatre at the Lyric Theatre, ahead of its national tour,” he added.
Keegan Joyce and Lucy Maunder bring unmatched depth and charisma to their roles, drawing from their illustrious careers on stage and screen. Joyce, a household name in Australian television, pairs perfectly with Maunder, whose theatrical achievements span both iconic and groundbreaking roles.
As No Love Songs makes its highly anticipated Australian debut, audiences can expect a deeply resonant, uplifting experience that celebrates the enduring power of love through life’s challenges.
