Victorians will soon have the opportunity to revisit the historic Mount Buffalo Chalet, which is set to reopen in early 2025 after being closed to the public for nearly 18 years.
The Chalet, a significant heritage site built in 1910, has undergone extensive maintenance and conservation efforts to prepare for this momentous occasion.
The reopening of the Chalet marks a new chapter for the iconic building, which will now serve as an outdoor education centre. Under the management of Belgravia Group, the Chalet will host experiential learning programs through Belgravia Outdoor Education, aiming to positively impact over 5000 students annually. The programs will offer educational experiences and personal development opportunities amid the stunning natural beauty of Mount Buffalo National Park.
In addition to the educational initiatives, the revitalisation project includes a new café and information centre, open year-round, with plans for future accommodations. This redevelopment is expected to create over 50 jobs, driving regional economic growth and supporting local businesses.
The Victorian Government has invested $2.8 million in maintenance and conservation works, with an additional $3 million from the Australian Government to preserve the façade of the Chalet.
Parks Victoria Board Chair John Pandazopoulos saideopening the chalet has been a long-held dream for many people in the local community, and across Victoria.
‘It’s a place with many special memories and a lot of history,” he said.
“We’re proud of the work Parks Victoria rangers and staff have done over the years to maintain the chalet and are delighted such an exciting future has been secured.”
