The Port Fairy Folk Festival has extended its line-up with another 15 artists joining the seaside celebration, taking place in two months’ time across the March long weekend.
Audiences will be seeing the light at the Festival’s 48th event when legendary 1970s US star Todd Rundgren shares his hits such as ‘Hello It’s Me’ and ‘Can We Still Be Friends’.
Stalwarts of the Australian music industry Vika and Linda and Troy Cassar-Daley join the Festival lineup alongside already announced local legends Missy Higgins, Peter Garrett, Kutcha Edwards and Don Walker.
Making their Port Fairy Folk Festival debut is beloved Australian singer and storyteller Watty Thompson and his band; Kenyan-born soul-infused R&B artist Elsy Wameyo; country-folk troubadour Felicity Dowd; joyful bluegrass ensemble The High Street Drifters; Ray Dimakarri Dixon who performs in Mudburra, one of the world’s oldest languages; and newcomers Mulga Bore Hard Rock – a six piece band of brothers from the remote central Australian desert community of Akaye.
Returning to the Festival are neo-soul pop star Kee’ahn, blues great Jimi Hocking, Surf Coast-based folk diviner Leah Senior, and the seaside event welcomes back popular Canadian folk singer-songwriter David Francey.
Additional special events include the return of the Festival Choir, Find Your Voice presenting ‘Sonder’ and The Ocean Sea Band appearing over a weekend of fun and uplifting performances.
General Release tickets are running out for the four-day magical event honouring music and culture. For almost 50 years, the stunning Port Fairy seaside village has become a destination for travellers, an annual pilgrimage for fans looking to combine the sun and surf of Port Fairy with their favourite or soon to be discovered artist.
Justin Rudge, Program Director for the Port Fairy Folk Festival highlighted the Folkie’s power to reach audiences of all ages.
“This line-up celebrates the return of the global music community to Port Fairy. Festival-goers will experience longtime legends of the music scene alongside rising stars from near and far,” he said.
“Our new site layout expands the family-friendly nature of the event, with more room for Folkie seats, bars, roving entertainment and, of course, dancing! We can’t wait to share the Port Fairy adventure with music lovers, whether they’re a returning attendee or a new audience member – there’s something for everyone!”
Located along the stunning Southwest Victorian coastline, at the start of the famous Great Ocean Road, Port Fairy is a creative seaside village that celebrates art and culture all year long. Port Fairy is accessible via V/Line train (to Warrnambool) and bus or a 3 ½ hour journey by car from Melbourne.
