Love, betrayal, and the haunting echoes of history come to life in Joanna Murray-Smith’s Berlin returning to Melbourne in 2025 after a sold-out run in 2023 that left audiences breathless.
Directed by Erica Chestnut and starring Georgia Latchford and Lachlan Hamill, this powerful romantic thriller will take over Meat Market, North Melbourne, for a strictly limited season starting 27 February and running until 6 March.
Set in the shadowy streets of Berlin, the play begins with a seemingly innocent spark between Tom, an Australian traveler, and Charlotte, a magnetic local, after a chance meeting in a bar.
But as the night deepens, so does the tension, and what starts as an intoxicating connection unravels into a gripping exploration of secrets, lies, and the weight of the past. With every revelation, the stakes rise, leading to an unforgettable confrontation that will leave audiences questioning whether love can ever overcome history.
“Berlin is a romantic thriller that pits the devastating shadow of history against the dazzling promise of true love,” said producer and performer Lachlan Hamill.
“When we staged the show in 2023 we never could have imagined the emotional responses we received from our audiences. It’s clear that the effects of this moment in history continue to be felt today, so to bring to life a story that touches so many people is a privilege we don’t take lightly,” he said.
Produced by Little Life Productions, Berlin is a masterclass in suspense and storytelling. Murray-Smith’s razor-sharp writing and Chestnut’s direction promise an emotionally charged night at the theatre.
