High schoolers can join in a night of creativity, connection and fun at the NGV Teens Art Party on Saturday 1 March 2025, from 6–9 PM.
Inspired by the vibrant and immersive Yayoi Kusama exhibition, this after-hours event invites teens to explore the world of art with their peers, meet new friends, and unleash their creativity through hands-on activities, music, and more.
Kicking off the night is Friendship Speed Dating, hosted by Melbourne creative collective Ladies of Leisure. This fun and engaging activity helps teens expand their social circles through guided conversations about art, design, and culture.

For those curious about creative careers, University of Melbourne Arts students will host pop-up talks in the exhibition, sharing insights into Kusama’s work and their own experiences studying and working in the arts.
Teens can also dive into a hands-on zine-making workshop with Melbourne-based graphic designer and illustrator Suyeon Park. Inspired by Kusama’s immersive environments, participants will illustrate pages to build their own imaginative worlds.
Face painting artists will offer floral-themed designs, referencing Kusama’s childhood on her family’s seed and plant farm. Meanwhile, the Great Hall will transform into a vibrant dance floor, with Melbourne DJ Claire Knight spinning genre-bending dance music and crowd-favourite anthems.

Tony Ellwood AM, Director of the NGV, said: “Since 2015, more than 22,000 teens have come together at NGV to explore exhibitions, participate in creative workshops, and connect through art—with over 12,500 attending an NGV Teens Art Party.”
“The popularity of Art Party continues to show the importance of making the gallery a welcoming and engaging space for the next generation of artists and creatives,” he said.
