People heading to the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix this weekend are encouraged to leave the car at home and catch one of the 4,800 extra tram services running to Albert Park.
More than 470,000 people are expected to make their way to the Grand Prix this weekend with fans encouraged to jump aboard dedicated Grand Prix express trams from Southern Cross Station, Melbourne Central and Flinders Street (St Kilda Road), running every two minutes.
Trams are free for Grand Prix ticket holders between the CBD and Albert Park, making public transport the easiest way to catch the action.
Trams will run from 5:30am until 10:00pm each day, with Southern Cross Station trams running to Gates 1, 2 and 3. Flinders Street Station and Melbourne Central trams will run to Gates 5, 8, 9 and 10.
Supplementary buses will also run from Friday to Sunday between Crown Casino and Gates 1, 2 and 3.
Ticketholders can use any gate. Queues are expected to be longest from Southern Cross and Gates 1 and 2.
Lakeside Drive and roads within Albert Park are closed to the public. Road closures will also be in place at Spencer Street, Bourke Street and St Kilda Road at various times to ensure safety for pedestrians and trams.
Regular bus services will also run to the event including on surrounding routes 246, 600, 604, 606, 922, 923.
Rideshare and taxi drop off and pick up points will be available on Canterbury Road, Albert Road, St Kilda Road and Fitzroy Street.
To better support the movement of people to and from the Grand Prix and vicinity, buses will replace trams on some nearby routes.
